The Eaton 5P 850iR UPS is a line-interactive UPS designed for rack mounting, where it occupies 1U of height. It provides an apparent power of 850VA and a real power of 600W. Its topology with automatic voltage regulation corrects undervoltage and overvoltage without switching to battery, thereby extending its lifespan. At full load, it powers connected devices for 4.5 minutes, while at half load, the time extends to 12 minutes. This server UPS with a pure sine wave output protects sensitive network components, storage, and IT systems. A high operating efficiency of up to 98% helps reduce energy consumption and cooling costs.
The power supply uses line-interactive topology, which actively stabilises the output voltage, protecting connected devices from mains fluctuations. The automatic voltage regulation function adjusts the voltage within a wide range of 160V to 294V without using the battery. A real power of 600W and an apparent power of 850VA cover the needs of smaller servers and network components. At full load, the device achieves an operating efficiency of up to 98%, reducing energy loss and heat production. The pure sine wave output is fully compatible with modern switched-mode power supplies in IT equipment.
In the event of a power outage, power is supplied by two maintenance-free lead-acid batteries with parameters of 2×12V/7Ah. ABM technology optimises the charging process, thus extending battery life. The user can replace the batteries themselves during operation without needing to shut down connected devices. It also features deep discharge protection, which prevents irreversible damage to the batteries. The backup time is 4.5 minutes at a full 100% load of 600W and 12 minutes at a 50% load of 300W. This model does not support capacity expansion with external battery modules; its configuration is fixed.
A graphic LCD provides an overview of the operating status and configuration. For communication with computer systems, the supply includes USB and RS-232 ports. A mini terminal block is also available for remote on/off functions. The included Eaton Intelligent Power Manager and Eaton Intelligent Power Protector software manage the safe shutdown of systems during a prolonged power outage. An expansion slot for an optional communication card adds the option of network management and remote monitoring via SNMP or a web interface.
An IEC C14 input connector is used for connection to the mains. To power protected devices, it offers four IEC C13 output sockets. All four sockets provide full battery backup and surge protection. For comprehensive infrastructure protection, the unit protects data and telephone lines and includes potential-free contacts for signalling status to external monitoring systems.
