The Jeseníky Mountains – Velká Kotlina: beauty and points of interest
The book has a total of 276 pages and uses 444 photographs to showcase the most significant places, rarest plants, rock formations, streams, and waterfalls of the glacial cirque Velká Kotlina, the most precious natural site in the Jeseníky Mountains. The authors of this e-book have been conducting geobotanical research in Velká Kotlina since 1972. To date, they have collected not only thousands of photographs but also a wealth of interesting and important data on the plants, rocks, soils, and waters of this unique location. They have managed to find answers to a number of long-unanswered questions, such as why Velká Kotlina is the most species-rich natural botanical site in the High Sudetes. All new findings, including the evaluation and comparison of detailed vegetation maps from 1976 and 2019, are contained in the two-volume monograph "Fenomén Velká kotlina" (The Velká Kotlina Phenomenon), published by Academia in 2022 and 2023.
The photographs in this e-book are grouped by sections of the cirque, named after naturalists who worked in the Jeseníky Mountains in the past. Each section is therefore accompanied by a brief description and basic information about the researcher after whom the rock, slope, avalanche chute, or snowfield was named.
The information summarised in the preface and in the photo captions is written in an accessible way, not only for naturalists but for all enthusiasts and lovers of well-preserved nature that has been little influenced by humans.
