KEN FOLLETT (born 1949, Cardiff, Wales) studied philosophy at University College London and then worked as a reporter for the South Wales Echo and the Evening News. He soon turned to writing and became a popular and respected author of crime and espionage stories (The Man from St. Petersburg, Jackdaws, Hornet Flight, Whiteout, A Place Called Freedom, and more). However, it was his sweeping historical novels set in the medieval town of Kingsbridge that brought him worldwide popularity: The Pillars of the Earth (1989), which topped The New York Times bestseller list again eighteen years after its first publication; World Without End (2007), which became the world's bestselling title of 2008; and A Column of Fire (2017). The first two books were adapted into television series.
