The Dark Net

Temná síť (Dark Web) offers a detailed look at an unprecedented police operation in which the FBI secretly operated an encrypted communication platform called Anom between 2018 and 2021.

The users of this network were almost exclusively members of criminal organisations who used it to plan and coordinate drug trafficking, money laundering, and violent crime, while their messages were monitored in real time by investigators. This gave not only American, but also Australian and European security services an unprecedented insight into the workings of the criminal underworld, against which they subsequently carried out extensive raids.

The author draws on thorough investigative research and many years of journalistic experience in the field of cybercrime. He shows the possibilities and limits of modern technology in the context of police surveillance. He highlights the globalised and ever-changing nature of today's criminal networks. He also does not neglect the ethical dilemmas associated with the methods of law enforcement agencies, including the question of where the line lies between ensuring security and the right to privacy. The book thus provides an inside look behind the scenes of the fight against organised crime in the digital age.
