The Synology DS1823xs+ NAS serves as a central storage server for sharing data, backing up endpoints, storing virtual machines, and managing surveillance systems. Its tower design makes it easy to place directly on a desk without needing to be installed in a rack. High performance
The quad-core processor with a 64-bit architecture runs at a base frequency of 3.35GHz. The base configuration includes 8GB of DDR4 ECC SODIMM RAM in one occupied slot. Users can expand the system memory up to 32GB by installing two modules into the available slots. The ECC-protected memory prevents data corruption and system errors.
Capacity expansion options
The device contains eight bays for 3.5″ or 2.5″ drives. The total capacity can be increased by connecting two Synology DX517 expansion units via the built-in eSATA ports. This gives you up to eighteen drive bays for data storage without needing to shut down the system. The hot-swap system is used for replacing drives during operation.
Network connectivity
The motherboard carries one integrated 10GbE LAN RJ-45 port and two 1GbE LAN RJ-45 ports. This means users can add interfaces with speeds of up to 25GbE or Fibre Channel. There are also three USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports with a transfer speed of 10Gb/s. A separate LAN port is provided for remote out-of-band management.
Fast SSD cache
Two integrated M.2 2280 NVMe SSD slots are used for installing fast SSDs. The drives can be used as a read/write cache or as a separate storage pool. This solution significantly speeds up file indexing in the Synology Drive application and shortens data access times on mechanical SATA hard drives. The M.2 SSD slots do not support the hot-swap function.
Secure backup
The Btrfs file system protects data integrity with metadata mirroring and file self-healing. The Snapshot Replication service creates snapshots of shared folders at five-minute intervals. This allows users to easily restore previous versions of files in case of accidental deletion. The Active Backup suite centralises backups for computers and virtual machines.
