Radiation oncology in a nutshell
This book presents the principles of radiotherapy in a clear and practical format, explaining how and why radiation treatment works in oncology. The author explains the modern radiotherapy techniques used, and when and why to use a specific procedure. Readers will find explanations of basic terms encountered in the medical records of cancer patients—stereotactic radiotherapy, conformal radiotherapy, image-guided radiotherapy, brachytherapy, and others. Separate chapters are devoted to the indications for radiotherapy in individual diagnoses and its outcomes, as well as the procedure for planning radiation treatment. A very important chapter covers patient follow-up after treatment in a general practitioner's surgery, describing possible side effects and their management.
The book is intended for all doctors involved in the care of cancer patients or who refer patients for radiation treatment—clinical oncologists, internists, urologists, gynaecologists, ENT doctors, and also general practitioners.
