Murderous money

How does DI Adam Fawley cope with the fact that he put an innocent person behind bars years ago?

When Nick Vincent, producer of the true-crime show Notorious, hears about new information in the high-profile case of eight-year-old Daisy Mason's murder in Oxford in 2016, he seizes the opportunity and sends a researcher to the scene to check everything out.

Two months later, a woman's body is found in a shallow grave in the woods. And forensic evidence links it to the same murdered girl's case. Detective Inspector Adam Fawley, the lead investigator on the original case, is to take on the current investigation. He remembers the case very well, because he was the one who arrested the girl's mother and charged her with murder. A murder that – as he now knows – the woman did not commit.

The investigation raises more questions than answers. What connects the two crimes? Where has the supposedly murdered Daisy been hiding all these years? And how did she manage to disappear in the first place? For Adam Fawley, this whole case is very, very personal...
