History of Law Congresses in the Czech Lands and Slovakia
This book offers readers a comprehensive overview of the law congresses held in the first half of the 20th century in the Czech lands and Slovakia. Until recently, these were a completely neglected phenomenon, although at the time they represented an important platform for lawyers to discuss current issues in legal science and practice. Their significance was only highlighted again by the renewed Congress of Czech Lawyers in 2022, which took place more than 70 years after the last law congress. In the book, the author focuses on a detailed analysis of the organisation and course of the historical law congresses, drawing on previously unexplored archival sources and contemporary literature. He places the tradition of these congresses in the broader context of the development of the state and law in the defined territory and shows how these congresses contributed to the formation of unified positions among lawyers of different professions and to the development of the wider legal community. Last but not least, the monograph is also dedicated to the personalities who played a significant role in the implementation of the individual congresses. Throughout the book, the professional text is enriched with unique period photographs and archival materials.
