The front of the lens is coated with a fluorine coating that repels water, making it easy to clean and prevent smudges.

Fast and silent AF

Newly developed focusing separates the lens groups into front and rear. The linear motor then regulates the distance with a ceramic ball system on the guide rail. Absolutely precise movement suppresses the tilt between groups. This maintains absolute precision, and the photos are of the same quality in the centre of the image field and at the edges at all settings. And because everything is hidden inside, the lens length does not change and there is no risk of contact with the subject.

Advanced optical stabilization for precise macro photography and minimized camera shake

Macro photography is all about fine detail, so even the slightest blur can ruin a great shot. When working at such close range, camera movement and shift blur, which increase with increasing magnification, can be challenging to navigate for even the most experienced photographers. That's why the XF 80mmF2.8 is equipped with an accelerometer and five-step optical image stabilization (OIS), which work together to detect shift blur and minimize the effects of camera shake.
