Epitaph of the family of Jan Hodějovský of Hodějov in Český Rudolc
This publication presents a comprehensive and interdisciplinary look at the important findings gained from the study of a significant piece of Renaissance stucco work—the epitaph of the family of Jan Hodějovský of Hodějov in Český Rudolec. The book opens with a text on the construction history of the Church of the Nativity of St John the Baptist in Český Rudolec and its importance as a major burial site for local nobles. This is followed by a section that places the epitaph of the family of Jan Hodějovský of Hodějov in its cultural-historical and art-historical context, detailing the patron and comparing the epitaph with other Renaissance works of a sepulchral nature. The third chapter discusses the most interesting discoveries from the conservation survey and provides a thorough description of the conservation process. Following this, the results of material analyses and other scientific research are presented in more detail, which have made it possible to reconstruct the technological procedures used in the creation of the work. The final chapter, building on the scientific research, summarises the results of climatic measurements taken in the church, which led to the proposal of long-term measures for the protection of the restored epitaph.
