The third and final part of the electronic diary of a fourteen-year-old girl from the year 2038 contains, in addition to personal entries, many scanned texts and recordings from the competence centre and holographic broadcasts, which offer a glimpse into the political structure and mindset of the ' democracy' of European Diversity shortly before its expansion into the Mediterranean Union. Its publisher found in it references to both the personal story of his own childhood and the historical causes of the subsequent global catastrophe of the 21st century.
Institutionalised good, when it forgets the individual, can very easily degenerate into tyranny. People open to social progress considered Zamyatin's and Orwell's critiques of development to be exaggerated, overlooking the good that the revolutionary left brings and unnecessarily accentuating the occasional shortcomings and missteps on the path to a brighter tomorrow.
Perhaps it is time for a new Orwell to bring that tomorrow closer to us today.
