Death Is a Lonely Business
Ray Bradbury in noir form – darker than ever before.
This suspenseful story with a touch of fantasy, full of nostalgia and the atmosphere of old Hollywood, takes the reader to Venice, California in the 1950s. There, amidst palm trees, canals and decaying houses, a lonely writer begins to suspect that a web of crime is growing around him. Strange phone calls, seaweed found on his doorstep and a series of mysterious accidents, some of them fatal, all point to this. With the help of Detective Crumley and an ageing actress, he finally comes to a surprising revelation and, at the same time, an understanding of his own creative power.
Ray Bradbury
Ray Bradbury was born in Waukegan, Illinois. After finishing high school, he published his own magazine, Futuria Fantasia, for which he wrote almost all the articles and short stories himself. Soon, however, he became a contributor to major magazines such as Esquire, Collier's and the Saturday Evening Post. His short story collections, The Martian Chronicles and The Illustrated Man, are considered classics of the science fiction genre, but are also milestones of twentieth-century American literature. In 1953, the novel Fahrenheit 451 was published, which Bradbury wrote on a rented typewriter in a university library. The novel was acclaimed all over the world, and Francois Truffaut made a film based on it in 1966. Ray Bradbury was a versatile author, also writing children's books, poems, essays, plays and film screenplays.
