The APC Smart-UPS RT 20kVA RM 230V rackmount backup power supply protects critical loads in data centres and industrial operations. This on-line, double-conversion UPS continuously supplies a pure sine wave with zero transfer time to the battery, eliminating any risk of an outage. With an apparent power of 20000VA and a real power of 16000W, it can power large server assemblies or sensitive technology. The flexible input and output configuration supports both single-phase and three-phase connections, making it easy to integrate into various electrical distribution systems. With a high efficiency of up to 98% in on-line mode, it reduces operating costs and heat loss.

Topology and performance

This power supply uses an on-line, double-conversion topology that continuously regenerates the input voltage and delivers a pure sine wave output without interruption. The efficiency at full load is 98.0% and at half load is 94.0%. Battery operation reaches 93% efficiency. The total harmonic distortion of the output voltage does not exceed 5% at full load. Power is supplied by four internal maintenance-free lead-acid battery modules with a life of 3 to 5 years. The charging time is 2.5 hours. The backup time can be extended by connecting external battery packs. The built-in bypass is both automatic and manually operable. When overloaded to 125%, the unit runs for 60 seconds, and at 150%, for 30 seconds. It also includes an emergency power off function.

Remote management and monitoring

For remote management, there is a serial port and a pre-installed network card for control via a web interface or SNMP protocol. A CD with software for power management and automated system shutdown is included. The power supply integrates multi-pole noise filtering with zero clamping response time. It meets VDE certification and EN/IEC 62040 standards. The unit offers flexible connection options. The input uses a hard wire terminal block for both single-phase and three-phase wiring. The output connectivity consists of eight IEC 60320 C19 sockets, two IEC jumper cables and a hard wire terminal block for connecting single-phase and three-phase circuits.
