Are you building a gaming machine and aren't sure which processor to select? Learn about when and in what situations certain CPUs make a difference with realistic gaming test results. We tested the best processors against each other: Intel i5, AMD Ryzen 5, Intel i7 and AMD Ryzen 7. And finally, we'll answer the question: Intel or AMD?
The long-awaited moment that players and creatives have been eagerly awaiting is here again! We're excited to bring you the next generation of Ryzen processors on the Zen 3 architecture, codenamed Vermeer. Specifically, it is the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, which boasts the following parameters:
Number of cores
Number of threads
Base frequency
Boost frequency
The AMD Ryzen 5000 series is firmly anchored to the AM4 socket, similar to the first, second or third generation Ryzen processors. However, you need a motherboard with a matching chipset. AMD B550, A520 or X570 have official support. By the way, it is the clear choice for the vast majority of users. If you already have such a board, make sure that you have installed a new BIOS with AGESA 1.0.8.0 or newer (AGESA 1.1.0.0).
The major changes primarily occurred directly in the processor cores. The redesign of the internal layout of the CPU cores inside the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X processor is fundamental. They are now concentrated in 8-core CCX (Core Complex) blocks, which have direct access to the L3 Cache with twice the capacity.
Clearly the most interesting benefit of the new Ryzen is the performance increase. This is really noticeable in the form of up to 19% IPC (number of instructions per CPU clock). This number came out for AMD as an average across 25 applications, so it's not an isolated increase in a pre-prepared situation.
All AMD Ryzen 5000 processors are certified for flawless use in virtual reality. Whether it's its development or consumption from a player's perspective.
The companion AMD Ryzen Master application offers comprehensive CPU health monitoring. In addition to monitoring all parameters, however, it is possible to tune the performance in great detail.
