Meze 99 Classic 2nd Generation

The Meze 99 Classics 2nd Generation are closed-back, over-ear headphones that build on the original 99 Classics model, retaining its signature construction from premium materials. The second generation uses 40mm dynamic drivers with a modified tuning that aims for a more balanced and neutral sound while preserving the bass character of the original model. The walnut wood earcups are complemented by a zinc alloy metal frame and a self-adjusting headband made of vegan leather. The headphones use a detachable cable with oxygen-free copper conductors, dual 3.5mm connectors on the earcup side, and also include a compact USB-C DAC/AMP for connecting to modern devices.

40mm drivers with optimised acoustics

The Meze 99 Classics 2nd Generation use 40mm dynamic drivers with a frequency range of 15Hz to 25kHz and an impedance of 16 Ohms. The driver pairing process reduces discrepancies between drivers in the mid and high frequencies and supports a more stable stereo image. The large internal volume of the earcups shifts cavity resonances towards lower frequencies and limits standing wave interactions. The internal geometry, acoustic seal, and a separate bass port all contribute to low-frequency control, instrument separation, and spatial sound reproduction.

Walnut earcups and comfortable design

The earcups are made of walnut wood, CNC machined, and then hand-finished, stained, and polished. The natural wood grain creates a unique pattern on each pair. The self-adjusting headband made of vegan leather and a spring steel band automatically adjust when the headphones are put on. The earpads use a clip mechanism that ensures their firm orientation and makes them easy to replace. The construction is complemented by cast zinc alloy metal components with a matte gold finish. The total weight of the headphones is 290g.

Detachable cable and wide connectivity options

The detachable cable uses double-twisted oxygen-free copper conductors with a Kevlar sheath, which increases mechanical durability, flexibility, and resistance to tangling. On the headphone side, the cable connects via two 3.5mm TS connectors, and the enlarged 7mm input openings allow for the use of cables with various connector housing sizes. The standard 3.5mm jack allows for direct connection to compatible audio sources, and a corresponding adapter is available for 6.3mm outputs. A compact USB-C DAC/AMP is also included for devices without a dedicated headphone output. The design is fully serviceable.
