One Scandal, One Aunt, One Summer

Never believe that women are the weaker sex! Twenty-year-old Marilyn will never forget the summer of 1960. As if it wasn't enough that the free-thinking Jewish girl is being suffocated at home during the holidays by her strict father, who only sent her to university so she could find a good husband. After an embarrassing scandal in the local synagogue, where she kissed the rabbi's son in front of the entire congregation, marriage seems to be the only solution. However, the free-spirited beauty has no intention of getting married, so her parents send her to Philadelphia to her great-aunt Ada, a renowned matchmaker, who is supposed to bring her to her senses. The girl, accustomed to the hustle and bustle of New York, is not initially impressed by the noticeably calmer environment or the distinctive behaviour of her new guardian. Gradually, however, she discovers that the sprightly and elegant seventy-year-old is not a stuffy old spinster, but a worldly-wise woman with a big heart who can teach her a great deal and with whom she will experience many an adventure…

There are only three certainties in the world: death, taxes, and Jewish mothers who want to marry off their children.

Listeners (and their better halves) of any age and religious creed will appreciate this humorous and engaging story with its pair of unforgettable heroines.
