The magpie's cry
The third instalment of the award-winning fantasy series Song of the Magpie, with its unconventional protagonist – the witch Henika.
Evil has been defeated. The Orders and the entire country can breathe again. But putting back together what has been broken is harder than it seems. Henika will soon find this out for herself.
She does not crave power, yet she finds herself at the very centre of the action. Once again, she stands up for the weak, and her main desire is to heal. But not even a witch can control everything.
A single drop may not break the dam, but when enough drops gather, they can trigger an avalanche – and only someone with pure intentions can stand against it. Like Henika. But is that even possible? Can she stay true to her life's creed in the face of loss, betrayal, and disaster? And after the losses, will there finally be gains?

Although the main character doesn't wield any weapons, the story is full of action, mystery, magic, and above all, unexpected twists. The character development is also noteworthy: there are no purely good heroes here, including Henika herself.

It remains true that Dana Beranová has managed to come up with something original, featuring an interesting protagonist and other characters that don't feel two-dimensional. A major bonus is certainly the bittersweet atmosphere and the way the story unfolds, reminding some readers of The Witcher. All this together gives you a reason why you'll easily come to love Dana Beranová's books.
