ECC technology

ECC technology checks transparently and in real time the integrity of data stored in memory. It can find and fix an error in one bit and detect an error in two bits. Some memory controllers can also repair larger-scale errors in conjunction with the ECC. Most professional desktops require ECC-enabled memory. In cooperation with parity control, the memory achieves the maximum control of transmitted data. The parity consists in adding the auxiliary information to the one-word bit (parity bit) and can subsequently verify the authenticity of the transferred data.

Registered memory is equipped with a controller of its own that controls access to individual memory modules, making it easier for the memory controller on the board or processor to work. Externally the memory behaves as a single module - the registered chip - which takes care of writing and reading from individual memory cells, and  transmits the result of these operations to the controller. This increases the efficiency of memory access as well as processing speed even when multiple memory modules are used simultaneously. Some server boards require registered memory.
