Why Should You Use a Gimbal?

Gimbals can greatly enhance the quality of your photography work, regardless of whether you are a filmmaker, YouTube content creator, adventurer, or passionate cinematographer. Why should stabilisers be an integral part of your essential travel gear?

Take photos and videos without motion blur and judder that distract the audience from what you are trying to show them.
Stabilisers (gimbals) are simple to operate and maintain.
They have a compact, often collapsible body that makes them easy to carry around.
Gimbals can handle hand-held and tripod videos, or even panoramic and time-lapse shots.
Mobile app compatibility and lots of clever features like object tracking.

Gimbals - Main Types

Stabilisers are divided according to the device they are designed for. So you can choose between gimbals for phones, compact cameras, DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, and action cameras.

Mobile Phone Gimbals

Phone gimbal stabilisers are the best place to start for a budding filmmaker. Today's phones often shoot videos in 4K at 30-60fps, which is something even professionals would consider very solid. The body is very lightweight and can feature a touchscreen, a control dial for the optical zoom, or a telescopic handle. Your footage is stored directly on your phone and you can quickly share it with the rest of the world. Moreover, smartphone gimbals have become significantly more affordable compared to a few years ago.

Gimbals stabilise the image using mechanical motors that work on individual axes. Conventional gimbals have 3-axis stabilisation, while selfie sticks with stabilisers usually have 2-axis stabilisation.

Camera Gimbals

Gimbals for cameras mean that you no longer have to edit jittery videos on your computer to salvage them. They dampen shocks and jittering otherwise typical for handheld video capture. As a result, your videos will be smooth and fluid even when you are running, walking or driving on unpaved surfaces. Gimbals for DSLR cameras are more expensive, but you can usually use mirrorless camera stabilisers with both compact or digital cameras.

Action Camera Stabilisers

Action camera stabilisers don't have to be handheld only. There are bike, chest, or helmet mounted camera stabilisers, so you can choose depending on your activity. Especially with action cameras, a gimbal is almost a must, because shaky videos are virtually inevitable when filming anything sports-related.
