Camera water resistance is the device's ability to withstand the ingress of water and dust. This property is crucial, especially for rear or side cameras, which are mounted on the exterior of the vehicle and are thus exposed to weather conditions such as rain, snow, or road dust. The degree of resistance is standardly indicated by the so-called ingress protection rating, denoted by the abbreviation IP followed by two digits. IP stands for Ingress Protection. The first digit in the code, ranging from 0 to 6, expresses protection against the ingress of solid particles, with a value of 6 meaning complete dust-tightness. The second digit, ranging from 0 to 9, determines the degree of protection against water. For example, a value of 4 indicates resistance to splashing water, while a value of 7 allows for short-term immersion of the camera in water. An IP67-rated camera is therefore fully protected against dust and can withstand immersion in water to a depth of one meter for 30 minutes.
