I use it together with a Samsung 990 Pro 4 TB SSD. As one of the few external SSD boxes, it can transfer up to 40Gbps. I didn't get that much in real life, but it's still decently fast. An SSD should be able to do much more, but there aren't many other ways to connect large, fast storage on MacBook Pro. In testing on my MacBook Pro 16" with Apple Silicon processor, I measured Read 2993 MB/s and Write 3159 MB/s. So around 24 Gbps. According to the system information, the SSD heats up to 52°C during use and I measured 44°C on the surface of the cover. I conclude that the heat dissipation is quite well done. Details on the attached photos. I'm satisfied.

I bought this case together with a WD Red SN700 SSD for permanent storage expansion on a Mac mini M4. In the first tests, the write speed was significantly lower (~500-1200 MB/s), while the read speed was fine. I was already considering returning it, but decided to try another piece - and I was lucky. After replacing the casing, I achieve stable ~2850 MB/s for reads and ~2350 MB/s for writes. The case has a stylish look, is well made, passively cooled (completely noiseless) and heats up only slightly. But obviously the performance is very dependent on the particular piece. If you come across a good one, this is one of the best USB4 cases on the market. If not, disappointment may come. I only recommend it if you can easily exchange or return the item.
