The disc is tiny and looks friendly. The advertised speeds are indeed achieved. Out of the box, the MacBook would not format to APFS and persistently reported I/O errores, direct write to the block device ran in bytes per second. On a Linux machine, it was enough to rewrite the first few GB to zero and the disk calmed down and works normally. I have two, and I feel that somehow the first piece was similarly bad.
