It is an order of magnitude better for writing than colour readers (ironically, often more expensive), mainly due to the surface, which puts more resistance when writing. It's still not 1:1 with real paper, but it's very close. The lack of a backlight, which I was worried about, turned out to be a relative trifle - the display reflects ambient light like paper, although of course you can't write in the dark. Conversely, you can write in the sun on a bright day because the display doesn't reflect light in the same way as LCD displays. Another positive is the response of the stylus when writing, which is slightly better than the colour e-ink I had experience with. But if you're not typing, the response speed is almost pathetically low - you can browse the web with it, but it's definitely not a pleasant experience. I'm not too keen on the included stylus either - as much as it may be a matter of habit, it looks a bit clunky.
