1. FIRST IMPRESSIONS The calculator is slightly smaller than its predecessor, the EX, and also has a lighter feel. The round buttons look much better in real life than in the promotional materials. I appreciate the black and gold combination, which looks very typically Japanese - very elegant. There is an interesting pattern around the perimeter of the calculator and a rough plastic surface on the cover that seems to symbolize leather. The cover is a little harder to put on, but you get used to it and it's just a minor detail. For the top black keys I would expect white highlighted text, especially "OK" on the center button, similar to the fx-CG100. The screen doesn't seem to have changed much, but the resolution has improved so the numbers look clearer. 2. CALCULATOR APPLICATIONS The calculator contains 13 applications, the new one is Math Box. The applications themselves do not differ from the EX version; specific menus for operations are logically stored under the CATALOG button, organized into natural, intuitive categories so you can easily remember them without much searching. Further operations can be found under the TOOL button. The formatting of numbers can be changed using the FORMAT button, which is about as effective as the S<>D u EX. A slight disadvantage I see is that you can no longer solve equations in the main application, but have to go directly to the ROVNICE application, which can be impractical at first. Another new feature is the definition of functions and subsequent calculation of function values directly in the main application, which is convenient, and the registered function will be saved and available in the TABLE application. The Math Box app simulates probability - dice and coin rolls. This app promotes students' interest in mathematics. It's very similar to what the Casio fx-CG50 offers, just more limited, which is perfectly fine - the basic features are there and that's what matters. I also really appreciate the settings menu, which is well structured and clearly shows the differences between FIX, SCI and NORM formats. The speed of the calculator is the same as the Casio EX and I have not experienced any problems during test use. 3. CONCLUSION My final verdict is that this calculator has really done well - it is a worthy successor to the EX series. The controversy stems mainly from the new software logic and the completely redesigned look, but you get used to it very quickly. We've been used to EX calculators for a few years now, but we have to remember that change is a step forward and we shouldn't be afraid of new concepts or criticize them - especially when, as mentioned in the development article, the new design was designed by the students themselves.
