The QNAP TS-473A-8G NAS is designed for data storage, backup, and centralised management in a business environment. The network storage is powered by a quad-core AMD Ryzen V1500B processor with a frequency of 2.2GHz, which processes data using eight threads simultaneously. The hardware includes 8GB of DDR4 RAM, expandable up to 64GB via two SODIMM memory slots. The design offers four bays for SATA hard drives or SSDs and supports hot-swapping.

Dual-port 2.5GbE network connection
The integrated network interface includes two 2.5Gb/s ports, which are backwards compatible with 1GbE and 100MbE standards. By combining these two physical ports, you can increase the transfer speed to 5Gb/s without laying new cables. This allows you to connect the network storage to existing CAT5e cabling without investing in new wiring. Faster transfers reduce the overall time needed to back up large company files.
Flexible PCIe interface
Two free PCIe Gen 3 slots allow for the installation of low-profile expansion cards to meet specific business requirements. You can install 10GbE network cards or QM2 combo cards in these free slots to increase throughput. It also supports SAS or SATA cards for connecting external TL and REXP expansion units. This lets you add extra USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports or a Wi-Fi 6 wireless interface.
Fast M.2 NVMe SSD storage
The motherboard includes two integrated M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 3 slots for NVMe SSDs. These dedicated bays are used to configure a fast SSD cache or for automatic data tiering with Qtier technology. The SSD cache accelerates IOPS performance and reduces storage volume latency for demanding databases and virtualisation. The system automatically moves frequently used data to the SSD layer based on the actual file access frequency.
Choice of operating system
Users can choose between two operating systems based on their company's specific needs. The QTS system is suitable for regular file sharing and synchronisation between teams. The QuTS hero system delivers comprehensive data integrity with the ZFS file system, which performs inline data deduplication, compression, and compaction. Switching to the ZFS version requires at least 8GB of RAM, and all existing data on the disks must be erased before installation.
Graphics card support
The chassis design supports the installation of low-profile graphics cards without needing external power. You can use the performance of compatible NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 graphics cards for hardware video transcoding and when working in virtual machines via GPU passthrough. This additional hardware helps accelerate computing processes, 4K UHD video editing, and graphics operations in the operating system.
Advanced virtualisation
The network server holds official certifications for virtualisation platforms, including VMware Ready, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix, and Veeam Ready. Integrated software tools run multiple virtual machines simultaneously with different operating systems directly on this storage device. The device allows hosting of containerised applications, replacing the need for additional separate physical servers on the corporate network.
