I've been buying Xiaomi phones for myself and my family since the Redmi 7. They all still work, the battery is still good, we replace more because of moral obsolescence - the hardware has no problem. I like the ability to set internet access, mobile data and permissions for each app. Shutting down background apps, etc. It's at least some control over apps without Root. The MIUI and HyperOS environment is fine to use - it's very fast, but it has its flaws, e.g. hardcoded some apps that are more bloatware. The Optimization and Themes apps are required for the phone to function, the rest can be discarded using ADB Debloat without root. Can remove everything Google, can get rid of most Xiaomi nonsense. I got cleaned up, no ads or weird behavior. You need to go through the settings and find "Recommendations", this will turn off recommendations in the notification grid etc. The only thing that probably can't be guaranteed is that the remaining apps don't send something more in telemetry, e.g. personal data (it's China, after all). I really recommend the phone. The packaging and foil from the factory are fine and fit nicely.
