As for the app you can connect through, I haven't tried that, but apparently the device has to connect to something else first, like e.g: lights that you control via bluetooth or something. The device works fine without the app, but sometimes it shows a few degrees more but that's only plus or minus 0.1 to 0.4 degrees max. As for the humidity, it shows about 3 to 8% more, but I'm only interested in the temperatures anyway.
