I've always prioritized things from the headphones that the train didn't run over: they had to be earphones that are comfortable and do not fall out (sport), provide a good battery life and have good sound quality. Of course, all in a reasonable price/performance ratio. (My first) Apple headphones together with the iPhone offer tremendous added value. With that they make up for, or rather exceed, the minor shortcomings of the Airpods (they could play a little better for the price) and therefore I don't regret a single penny invested and I wouldn't change.
