UV Light Detection

UV light detection verifies the authenticity of a banknote using ultraviolet radiation. As the banknote passes through the counter, it is illuminated with UV light and the sensor evaluates how it reacts. The paper of genuine banknotes usually does not fluoresce, meaning it does not glow under UV light, whereas selected print elements or embedded fibers glow in a certain color and at certain places. In contrast, the paper of many counterfeits contains brightening agents that cause it to glow undesirably. The counter compares the measured values with stored reference data and rejects a suspicious banknote. UV detection is one of the most common methods of verifying authenticity and is often combined with IR or MG element detection.
