Night vision in dashcams is a set of technologies that improve recording quality in low visibility conditions, such as at night, dusk, or in tunnels. Image quality is primarily influenced by the light sensitivity of the image sensor and the lens aperture, which is specified by the "f" value. A lower f-value, such as f/1.8, means that more light passes through the lens, resulting in a brighter image. The recording is further enhanced by software functions such as WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) or HDR (High Dynamic Range). These technologies digitally process the image to balance large contrasts between bright and dark areas in the shot. This prevents, for instance, overexposure of the shot by oncoming car headlights or, conversely, the loss of detail in dark shadows. Some cameras, especially those intended for monitoring the vehicle's interior, can also be equipped with infrared illumination, which invisibly lights up the scene for the camera sensor.
