Anti-reflective lens coating

An anti-reflective coating is a thin optical layer applied to the surface of a lens that reduces the reflection of light at the glass-air boundary. As a result, more light passes through the lens to the sensor, and the image has higher contrast and more accurate colors. The coating also limits flare and ghosting, which occur when shooting toward the sun or artificial light. It usually consists of several layers of controlled thickness that suppress reflections across a wide spectrum. The layer is very thin and can be damaged by improper cleaning, so soft cloths are recommended. It is used on quality lenses and adapters for action cameras.
