I was at a dog show on Sunday and found out that fixed focal length lenses have their limits. I have no problem changing position for perfect composition, but among a crowd of people, it's just not possible and I really don't enjoy changing lenses every few minutes. Combining high luminosity with a wide-angle to portrait range that reaches the limit of telephoto is a real challenge. This piece perfectly complements my Sony 70-350 and I practically cover all the bands I need to live with two lenses. Wanting a zoomable f1.8 lens is a bit of a naive wish, especially with a 5-figure price tag, but the 2.8 is still a very fast lens that can nicely frame the subject. In terms of performance though, this is a heavy piece of optics with a surprisingly short minimum focusing distance that even the weaker macro can do, producing very sharp photos across the entire band. Compared to the competition, however, there is quite a lot of noticeable filament chromaticity at low focal length and at open eye. The sharpness in the corners is also a bit worse, but only until one pulls the shutter down to f4+. Even so, we can still talk about above-standard performance, especially when we look at the price tag of around 16 thousand, which is absolutely amazing. I personally don't like the smooth plastic that Tamron uses, it looks cheap, however the weight says there is a lot of electronics and glass. Surprisingly, there are no drastic image distortions and the camera bodies can handle it just fine, you definitely want to keep it on. Last but not least, it is probably worth mentioning the solid fast focusing, the lens does not breathe noticeably when focusing and for me it is a very good solution that has tolerable ailments, which can be solved by post-processing, the designers hit my matrix of priorities and therefore I have no problem with a relatively heavy device that is more like a telephoto lens. It holds up well, the stabilization helps to chase points when working with the shutter, and it really fits a body like the A6700 so well that even an aesthete's eye doesn't have to cry. To smaller compact bodies, it can really look like a gigantic monster. I'm not rich enough to buy a sony or sigma, they really aren't that much better to justify such a price jump, especially if you're not a professional.

at low aperture and low focal length, significant chromatic aberration and poor sharpness in the corners

I bought the lens for my Sony a6400 camera as a replacement for the kit lens. For the price of 16k I bought it for I really can't complain about anything. This is my first Tamron lens, but certainly not my last.
