I originally wanted more capacity, but this is the largest capacity with 5200 RPM that I could find. I was afraid of the exos series because it's a hdd for a pc in the bedroom and I prefer silence over performance. And I don't notice much difference between 7200 and 5200 RPM in home use.
Quiet!
At 5200 RPM it's quite fast
nothing

Quick
Virtually noiseless compared to 7200rpm drives, especially compared to WD drives
Connection to Windows automatic, GPT/NTFS
It works even on older PCs with Win7 64 and on boards without UEFI with ICH9R chipset
Nothing yet.
After formatting it is not 8TB, but "only" 7.27TB, but this is due to the conversion between decimal and binary.

The transfer speed is not that bad for an HDD
Works without problems
Maybe the price, but what can you do
It makes strange noises, but it's true that today's HDDs sound quite different to the old ones

I bought the 4TB ST4000VN006-3CW104 version, and when the drive arrived, I was surprised at how thin it is! I couldn't find the number of platters in the Seagate datasheets, but it seems impossible that two could fit in there. I was disappointed that this drive vibrates noticeably more than the SkyHawk ST2000VX008, which has 2 platters and is from 2017 (Thailand Korat). Although I've had drives with worse vibrations, this is about average. The IronWolf I got was made in China (Wuxi); supposedly the quality should be the same as those made in Thailand.
Quiet operation (in idle mode)
A year ago, I could have had two for the same money and still had 1k left over!
Investment discs, never seen those before.

Bought 4 of these. 2 were delivered in a non-working condition, had to return and replace with another option. Another one failed after 1.5 years of usage and needs to be replaced now. So out of 4 HDDs from the initial order only 1 is working after 18 months of usage.
Quiet
Shown itself as unreliable in a long-running operation

After 3 years of use, the head parking became quite loud, sometimes continuously. I wouldn't put it in a NAS, maybe in a PC for data storage. In any case, in 2026 I switched to the PRO version and there's just no comparison. You have to understand that with drives, it's a bit hit and miss. The statistical return rate for Seagate drives is at a very good level. However, even for a standalone drive in a PC case, I'd always rather recommend the more expensive IronWolf PRO version for peace of mind.
