The Emtec Movie cube, which had become obsolete with the advent of H.265 and HEVC, was looking for a replacement that would reliably play movies and music from an external drive. It's not that I want to be 100 years behind the monkeys, but using streaming services when the wi-fi speed (on the roof) drops below 1 Mbit/s in the evening or drops out completely is somehow impossible. However, today's media centers are focused on streaming services and the media player function is in many cases secondary (just not for me, unless I want to watch the spinning wheel)). After the experience with the cheap Openbox AND-95, which after 2 years for some unknown reason stopped playing some formats (restarting to factory settings and even updates did not help), I decided to go this medium-priced way (and preferred it to Dune devices). After the first frustration with the mandatory Google account login (if I hadn't connected the wi-fi and linked to my Google account, I would never have completed the first launch! ), the device more or less fulfils the requirement of a multimedia centre, although it does not behave as a multimedia player, but as a mobile phone (without simcard services), although the home screen is arranged differently than in a mobile phone. The multimedia player function is replaced by the installed VLC application for android, which can play apparently everything. (but it's kind of the other way around, I have to start VLC first and then search for a movie). Interestingly, when you delete some files on an external drive or add files to an existing directory, VLC has a problem with this and either sees the new files and doesn't see the old ones (which are there) and vice versa. Well, it's far from perfect. Although for devices above 3000, - I would expect trouble-free operation, it also did not sit well with the Yamaha HTR-4072 receiver when connected via HDMI - the picture sometimes flickers (black as if the signal dropped out) with loss of sound (interestingly, this does not happen in PassThrough mode (when the receiver is turned off and the signal goes straight to the TV again via HDMI). Turning off hardware acceleration had no effect, nor did turning off other features. There is no choice but to reboot the receiver, sometimes even this device (especially when the sound and picture get "hot"). When the communication noise is caught, it works reliably and the device does not suffer from lack of performance or sudden restarts or lockups. I don't have space for a full review of all the features and I've only had it for a few days. Due to the higher price, which was not compensated by the flawlessness I give 3 stars, i.e. average.
