We have a Dyson V15 Detect Absolut vacuum cleaner in parallel, so I can compare. The Gen5 has a higher suction power, this is especially noticeable at the "max" setting, however sonically the Gen5 seems to fall apart at any moment at this setting. Fortunately, you rarely need this power. Furthermore, the Gen5 has a significantly higher weight (3.1kg vs 3.5kg). Even if you're used to the V15 (which will seem heavy when switching from another vacuum that doesn't have a motor at the handle), the Gen5 is a real squeeze when you first get a hold of it. I hope you will get used to it in time (like we got used to V15). My daughter (13 years old) likes the on/off switch located above the display on the Gen5. The V15 has a "trigger" on the index finger and once you release it, the vacuum turns off (I personally like it better), with the Gen5 this is eliminated. She says that the Gen5 vacuums better than the V15 even though the Gen5 is heavier. Another difference is the attachments, especially the slotted attachment. The V15 has it as a separate accessory, where you remove the long nozzle and attach the crevice tool. The V15 has an elongated opening of a slightly rounded rectangle. The Gen5 has it as part of the long tube - you have two buttons at the coupling - one disconnects the whole nozzle (including the crevice tool), if you use the other, you pull the crevice tool out of the long nozzle hidden inside. The Gen5 bore is round and also has a slotted and sliding brush - study the photos to understand. Personally, I prefer the V15 principle. To summarize - the differences of Gen5 versus V15:
* Performance - except for the boost mode sound, it's great
* Weight - Gen5 0.4kg heavier
* Switch vs trigger - Gen5 doesn't have to keep pressing
* Slotted
Personally, I would probably prefer the classic V15 over the Gen5 next time
the vacuum cleaner is great, within the auto mode it regulates the power according to the amount of dust sucked in
hard floor and carpet attachments work well beyond expectations (we have two dogs)
does not tangle long hair in the brush, when it is already caught on the roller, it is pushed to the edge outside the bristles
the rollers and brushes last (we have a 2-year-old V15 and after washing and cleaning the rollers are as good as new, not frayed, not spilt)
you don't have to hold the trigger of the switch as with previous models (for some it can be a minus)
weight (0.4kg more than the V15), that's 13% more
complicated installation of the slotted tube, many joints, I think it will be free in time)
