Active cooling is a system that purposefully removes heat from the internal components of a camera using a built-in fan. During demanding tasks, such as recording high-resolution video or rapid continuous shooting, the image sensor – the light-capturing chip – and also the processor, heat up significantly. Excessive heat can cause an increase in digital noise in the image, which manifests as undesirable graininess. In extreme cases, it can even lead to the automatic shutdown of the device to prevent damage. The active cooling system forces air around these components, maintaining their optimal operating temperature and thus ensuring reliable performance even under prolonged load without negatively affecting image quality. This technology is primarily equipped in professional camcorders and hybrid cameras designed for video production.
