Button Sewing Foot

The button sewing foot is a special accessory for a sewing machine that makes it easier to attach flat buttons to fabric. This foot typically has a non-slip base, often rubberized, which holds the button firmly in place during sewing. To use it, the feed dog, which are small teeth under the needle that normally move the fabric, must be disengaged on the machine so that the button remains in one position. The machine then sews using a zigzag stitch, with the needle alternately entering one and then the other buttonhole. The stitch width needs to be adjusted precisely according to the spacing of the buttonholes. This type of foot is designed for flat two- and four-hole buttons and is not suitable for sewing on shank buttons, which have a loop on the back for thread attachment.
