Compared to the older version, it makes much more noise. However, I consider the main problem to be the incredible stench that emanates from the hair dryer even after several uses - it smells like burning plastic. It smelled like new right away - I was hoping it would, but it still does. Probably a bad batch of plastic? Nothing looks like it' s on fire inside.
