The manufacturer (not Alza) is extremely greedy. Not only is a subscription required for the product (without a subscription, don't even consider it), that's understandable and a matter of business policy. But, I also used a previous version of the gen 3 in which the battery died (yes, I can be glad it didn't blow up and snap my finger). So I stopped paying my subscription. And when I bought the gen 4 six months later, I found that to get access to the original two years of data, I would have to pay for the six months I didn't have the device. When I found out, I tried to find an alternative, which I was unsuccessful in doing, but I don't like the company and as soon as a comparable alternative is available, I'll gladly switch to it. I'm not sure that's a sensible policy.
