Even though I wrote more about the negatives, they are excellent headphones and they deserve a full 5 stars. I already mentioned convenience above. Previous models from Sony used wonderfully soft memory foam and soft leatherette. This latest model has a very stiff "leatherette" and the inner foam is stiffer. Very uncomfortable and unusable as noise-cancelling headphones for me.
Sound quality
Compared to the XM3 and XM4, these new XM5 are "unwearable" for me. The earpieces are very stiff and hard. So if you wear glasses, the earpieces don't stick to your head and therefore don't seal well and you hear the sound from outside.
The foam in the connecting part (the one on the top of the head) is also too hard and after a couple of dozen minutes it presses uncomfortably into the head.
Too uncomfortable for long-term wearing, which is really a "deal-breaker" with this type of headphones.
