To secure the grip, the jaws must be squeezed with slightly more than normal force. Unfortunately, it has happened to me that about three times the holder with the phone (the phone is rather smaller/lighter by today's standards) fell out. When driving, you have to watch out for a reflexive reaction where you may lose your attention for a moment. Probably the rubberized jaws, despite the seemingly sufficient clamping force, gradually move along the fan exhaust louvre until the weight of the whole holder+phone assembly exceeds the clamping force of the jaws. It was therefore a good idea to occasionally reseat the holder all the way to the exhaust stop and re-lock it for safety.
